On May 31, we hosted a webinar called “WeChatting to the Glory of God,” during which we presented a picture of what God is doing through four different ministries involved in digital engagement.

Sean Cheng, the Asia editor at Christianity Today, gave a brief overview of the digital landscape in China and how Christians are using it, as well as some of the unique challenges and pitfalls they face. He also reminded us that doing internet evangelism and apologetics is a unique calling that not every Christian has. He concluded by sharing a list of Chinese Christian internet resources. That list can be found here. Another resource he mentioned was the Internet Mission Forum.

Dr. Tsun-en Lu of Ambassadors for Christ talked about digital engagement among young Chinese intellectuals. He then talked about how his organization has established a new ministry model for student outreach that “brings churches and ministries together through a membership management system.” These churches and ministries collaborate to reach the highly mobile students, young professionals, young families, and returnees.

Travis Todd shared how he and his team at Cru are using digital engagement to do evangelism in Chinese and the “whack-a-mole” nature of keeping sites and resources accessible inside the Great Firewall. In addition to evangelistic messages, they also seek to connect with those who come to faith through online discipleship and small group connections.

Andrew Feng gave us an overview of the work of Indigitous, a ministry that seeks to mobilize young people to use their tech skills for the kingdom. They do this by helping ministries and organizations bring innovation to their work while offering tangible projects that give young people a chance to be a part of what God is doing in the world.

Their brief presentations were followed by a Q&A time.

The video of the webinar, including questions, is now available on our YouTube channel.
