On April 5, in the gorgeous Nazareth Chapel at the University of Northwestern-St.Paul, I’Ching Thomas delivered a fascinating lecture titled “Human Flourishing in Chinese Thought: A Christian Response.”

Drawing on themes from her book Jesus: the Path to Human Flourishing, I’Ching explored the notion of human flourishing in Chinese thought, focusing especially on Confucius’ teaching on self-cultivation and benevolence as keys to achieving the ideal of the Noble Man. Then, drawing on parallels with the biblical faith, she proposed that the Christian gospel holds relevance to the aspirations of cultural Chinese concerning human flourishing as defined by Confucian ideals.

A video recording of the talk is now available, embedded here and is also available on our YouTube channel.

Thank you to the nearly 70 people who were about to attend the live lecture! We are also thankful for everyone who wasn’t able to come but expressed interest in a recording. We hope that you enjoy the lecture recording. Please feel free to share the video within your networks with anyone who might be interested.

You can purchase I’Ching’s book, Jesus: the Path to Human Flourishing: The Gospel for the Cultural Chinese on Amazon. Listen to more of her thoughts on Chinese culture and Christianity on her podcast, CantoSense, on YouTube.
